PUBLIC SCHEDULE -- CIVIL WAR EVENT

Saturday, May 3, 2008

10:00 AM  -- Gates open.  Proceed to top of hill to purchase
                   admission tickets, and for parking.  Camps open to the
                   public.

10:00 AM  -- Memorial Service for Ben Newton and Annie Podhayski at Ben's
                    Monument, near the battlefield.

10:30 AM --  Rifle demonstration behind the main lodge.

11:30 AM  -- Concert by the New Elmira Civil War Band, comprised of music
                   students from Southside High School in Elmira.
                 
12:00 PM --  'Tater soup should be ready!

1:00 - app. 2:00  -- Watch the battle on the main battlefield.
             If you wish to take the bus to the battlefield area, please allow plenty of time due to a possible waiting line.  Or you may prefer to walk the short distance.

3:00 PM  -- Musket demonstration behind the main lodge.

5:00 PM  -- Camps and park close to the public.

7:30 PM --  Candlelight Tours begin.
              Due to limited space, tickets should be purchased in advance.
                 A limited number may be available to purchase on Saturday at
                 the event, but it is advised not to wait.  This is a popular offering.

10:00 AM  --  Gates and camps open.

10:00 AM  -- 1860s Church Service, behind the main lodge.

11:00 AM  -- Clothing of the 1860s Fashion Show, behind the main lodge.

11:45 AM  -- Rifle demonstration behind the main lodge.

12:00 PM  -- 'Tater soup should be ready!

1:00 - app. 2:00  -- Battle on the main battlefield.
              Please note:  the battles are scheduled for the same time on both days. 
                 Allow plenty of time to get down to the battlefield.

3:00 PM  -- Rifle demonstration behind the main lodge.

4:00  PM -- Event closes to the public.

But Wait!  There's Even More Going On!

At the Indian Village  --

Demonstrations of the early Northeastern Woodland Indian culture.
Take a self-guided tour of the Indian Village.

Inside the Main Lodge --

The John Jones Society -- a display about the escaped slave
who buried nearly 3,000 Confederate prisoners at "Helmira"
and kept meticulous records of each one.

The Sons of Union Veterans --

Bob Rockwell  -- displays his collection of original
Union and Confederate guns.

Spinners -- Sheila Carter and Peg Chaffee spin wool into yarn.
