RE-ENACTORS'
INFORMATION
The Battle of Newtown
August 27, 28 & 29, 2010
Please
note: the old entrance off of Rte 17 is now closed!
Follow these directions to
get into the park.
New this year, on
Friday evening...
We have
received permission from the City of Elmira to hold a special "Sneak
Preview" evening program on the edge of Elmira. The area is part of
the site of General Sullivan's encampment, on his return trip south.
It sits right next to the
Chemung River
on E. Water St.
Part
of the area is grassy, and part is lightly wooded, with paths -- great for a
woods skirmish scenario.
The program will begin at 4 PM and will last until dusk and is open to the
public, free of charge. We will be having demonstrators, Indian
storytelling, kids musket drills, military musket drills, etc. A woods
tactical will end the evening.
Sutlers should
go ahead and set up at the park, rather than at the Water St. site, as we
will only be there for a few hours.
Buses will transport participants between the park and the site.
Back by popular
demand on Saturday and Sunday-- Our public participation Woods Walk at
the park. Details are still being worked out.
Arrival, Registration and Setup --
Participants, sutlers, and demonstrators may arrive on Thursday to
setup. Registration will be open beginning Thursday morning and will remain open late
in the evening
and again on Friday.
If you cannot arrive on Thursday, Friday arrival and setup is fine,
since there will be no public on the hilltop.
Please stop at the Park Office, at the stop sign on top of the hill,
upon your arrival to register.
Each participant will be required to
fill out and sign a NYS Parks Volunteer Form
and a Wavier of Liability. Forms for children under 18 must be signed
by a parent or guardian.
Parking passes will be issued and must be filled out and placed on your
dashboard.
Camp locations are still being worked
out, so you will be told upon your arrival where you should go.
All vehicles must
be removed from the camps and sutler areas as soon as unloading is complete.
Vehicles must be parked in designated re-enactor parking.
Available Amenities --
Water, firewood, and port-a-johns will be located near the camps.
Restrooms and showers are on top of the hill near the Park office.
Ice will be available to purchase at set times.
Food --
A modern food vendor, located near the Park office, will be open for lunch
business
during public hours on Saturday and Sunday.
Your hosts will again provide Saturday night supper and Sunday Continental
breakfast, both free of charge.
Tavern Night!
After dinner is over on Saturday evening, the lodge will be open for an
18th-Century Tavern Night.
Rum punch will be provided, along with some delectable refreshments.
Games, Music, Merriment! Bring your singing voices, and come and join the fun!
Please bring your lanterns, as we turn out the lights and it is a big, dark
lodge! We need help with the ambience lighting.
