Engineering and consulting firm BKF Engineers has announced the acquisition of Lotus Water, a specialized engineering consultancy focused on water resources and climate resilience. The move reinforces BKF’s strategy to expand its water-focused services and strengthen its capacity to address complex infrastructure and climate-related challenges.

The acquisition brings together two organizations with complementary expertise in sustainable water management and resilient infrastructure design. Lotus Water is recognized for its work in stormwater management, flood resilience, climate adaptation, green infrastructure, and integrated water systems planning. Its multidisciplinary team of civil engineers and urban planners has extensive experience supporting public utilities, municipalities, institutional clients, and major urban infrastructure initiatives.

We are building a premier water resources platform that combines deep technical experience, innovative thinking, and the scale required to help communities and utilities adapt to climate change, protect critical infrastructure

By integrating Lotus Water into its operations, BKF aims to deepen its technical capabilities in water resources while enhancing its ability to support public agencies, utilities, and communities confronting growing environmental and climate pressures.

“Water resilience is one of the defining infrastructure challenges of our time,” said Peter Wijsman, Executive Vice President of Infrastructure Solutions at BKF. “By bringing Lotus Water into BKF, we are intentionally building a premier water resources platform, one that combines deep technical experience, innovative thinking, and the scale required to help communities and utilities adapt to climate change, protect critical infrastructure, and plan confidently for the future. This acquisition accelerates our ability to lead in the water market and innovate solutions that are both resilient and enduring.”

According to Greg Hurd, President and CEO of BKF, the integration will expand the firm’s capacity to undertake more complex projects while maintaining high service standards. “The acquisition creates a significantly larger and more experienced water resources practice, expanding BKF’s capacity to pursue larger and more complex projects while continuing to deliver first-class outcomes. Lotus Water’s established presence in California and the Pacific Northwest also supports BKF’s strategic growth in key West Coast markets.”

Following the transaction, Lotus Water will continue to operate as a standalone legal and operating entity within the BKF group, while contributing to the firm’s broader Water Resources practice. The combined capabilities are expected to provide clients with expanded services ranging from advanced modelling and policy development to nature-based solutions and infrastructure design.

Founded more than 110 years ago, BKF provides planning, engineering, surveying, and construction management services across transportation, water, development, and government sectors in the western United States. Lotus Water focuses on integrated water resources engineering and climate resilience planning, working with public and private clients on complex water and infrastructure challenges across the West Coast of the United States and Canada.
