VA TECH WABAG (WABAG), a prominent Indian water technology company, has been selected by the Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (CMWSSB) for the refurbishment, finance, operation, maintenance, and transfer (RFOMT) of a 45 Million Litres per Day (MLD) Tertiary Treatment Reverse Osmosis (TTRO) Plant at Kodungaiyur, Chennai. This project will be carried out under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.
The TTRO plant at Kodungaiyur, originally developed by CMWSSB in 2019, was designed to supply high-quality treated wastewater to industries in the Manali–Ennore and Manali–Minjur industrial corridors. WABAG’s role involves refurbishing and upgrading the facility to restore its full treatment capacity of 45 MLD over the next 18 months. After the refurbishment, WABAG will operate and maintain the plant for 18.5 years, ensuring a reliable supply of treated water that meets all specified quality and quantity standards.

WABAG is already operating another 45 MLD TTRO facility at Koyambedu, Chennai, which was also built and commissioned by the company in 2019. Additionally, WABAG runs a 40 MLD TTRO facility in Ghaziabad under the PPP model, supporting industrial water reuse in the Sahibabad Industrial Area. The Kodungaiyur plant contract further solidifies WABAG’s leadership in water recycling and reuse solutions, contributing to sustainable industrial water management and helping Chennai transition to a circular water economy.
S Varadarajan, Whole Time Director & Chief Growth Officer of WABAG, commented, “We are delighted to secure this prestigious Recycle & Reuse project from our valued client, CMWSSB. We thank them for their continued trust and confidence in our technological expertise and execution capabilities. This project further strengthens our leadership in the Indian water sector and reinforces our position at the forefront of water recycling and reuse, which will play a critical role in enabling sustainable industrial water management and supporting Chennai’s long-term water security.”
